Vintage

People crowded around, peering in. Excited voices called others to come and look; this was a rare event. They’d scheduled the arrival for mid-morning, when everybody would be out and about. Alistair was proud of his find.

The car door opened and cameras started popping. This was the moment.

With his grandson’s help, Alistair shuffled into position, then turned to watch his darling Beatrice, forget-me-nots in her soft white hair, her walking frame festooned with ribbons, advance cautiously down the aisle. The congregation cooed in admiration. Beatrice smiled.

Alistair’s face flushed warmly.  Yes, vintage models could still produce a spark.

  1. Awww, this is so lovely. I feel silly for echoing the other commenters, but this story soothes the heart and forces the face into a smile.

  2. That was funny and cute at the same time. I have a right to laugh because I use a walker. I guess if you’re able to get a second wind you’re still not too old to shuffle down the aisle. Priceless, Margaret. Well done. 😀 — Suzanne
